God is love.

Beloved, let us love one another, because love is from God; everyone who loves is born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, for God is love.

 1 John 4:7-8

Saint Paul's and The Episcopal Church believe in the ancient statement of faith called the Nicene Creed.

We believe that God created all that is - all things, seen and unseen, and that God created them both for and out of love. We believe that Bible reveals to us that God is one, and that is also revealed to us as living in the unending relationship that is the Holy Trinity - God exists as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe that Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is Emmanuel - God with us, God incarnate. Jesus is both fully human and fully divine, and is the full and perfect revelation of God's love for all of humanity; God's only son, sent by God the Father to be our savior.

Incarnate by the Holy Spirit, and born of the Virgin Mary, Jesus lived as one of us, yet without sin. To the poor he proclaimed the good news of salvation; to prisoners, freedom; to the sorrowful, joy. To fulfill God's purpose he gave himself up to death; and, rising from the grave, destroyed death, and made the whole creation new.

We believe that Holy Spirit of God lives and breathes through the church today. God is present and active among us, calling us to love one another, to serve one another, and to do the work God calls us to do.

Episcopalians believe that God inspired the Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments. We believe the Bible contains all things necessary to salvation -- it reveals to us the great truths God wants us to know, and there are no secrets outside of the Bible that we need to learn for salvation.

We believe that Scripture always requires interpretation. God created us in love and endowed us with memory, reason, and skill - and for us not to use those gifts is to deny God's act of love in creating us. We believe we must always seek to interpret, understand, and apply the stories in the Bible to our lives in the 21st century.

Jesus stood up to read, and the scroll of the prophet Isaiah was given to him. He unrolled the scroll and found the place where it was written:

"The Spirit of the Lord is upon me,
   because he has anointed me
to bring good news to the poor.
He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovery of sight to the blind,
to let the oppressed go free,
to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor."

Then Jesus to say to them, "Today this scripture has been fulfilled in your hearing."

Luke 4:16b-19, 21

Jesus said, "I give you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, you also should love one another. By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

John 13:34-35

We believe that because God has loved us, we are also called to love one another. In Christ, we live transformed lives, and the love Jesus gives us allows us to work toward the transformation of this world. We believe that God's will is that this world should become a place of healing, wholeness, justice and peace.

We believe that God loves you:
no exceptions.
